The role

Shelley Labs is hiring a Market Design & Data Economics Lead to develop the economic and market architecture around our work on data value.

‍

The role will focus on how value created from data can be measured, attributed, priced and distributed, and how economic rights around data can be structured and settled in practice.

‍

You will work across capital markets, economics, market infrastructure and data governance to develop mechanisms through which data contributors can participate in the value created from downstream uses of their data.

‍

Responsibilities will include:

  • Develop quantitative approaches to measuring and attributing data value
  • Design pricing, licensing, royalty, revenue-sharing and other payment models
  • Define how economic value should move between data contributors, intermediaries and downstream users
  • Develop approaches to marginal contribution, value attribution and collective data ownership
  • Design market and transaction structures around data access and governed computation
  • Assess how economic rights to data-derived value should be represented and settled
  • Evaluate relevant market infrastructure, payment systems and distributed-ledger networks
  • Analyse transaction flows, settlement, liquidity, counterparty and custody considerations
  • Build financial and quantitative models to test proposed structures
  • Work with the technical team to translate market-design requirements into implementable systems
  • Contribute to pilot design, commercial models and institutional partnerships
  • Support engagement with financial institutions, market infrastructure providers and researchers
  • Contribute economic and market-design sections to grant applications and research proposals

‍

What we're looking for

Candidates should have:

  • 5–8 years of relevant experience in capital markets, structuring, trading, market infrastructure, quantitative research, institutional digital assets, financial product development or a related field
  • Strong understanding of financial markets, including pricing, settlement and market structure
  • Strong quantitative and economic reasoning
  • Experience analysing or designing financial products, transaction structures or economic mechanisms
  • Ability to develop financial and quantitative models independently
  • Ability to work with unfamiliar economic problems and make assumptions and counterfactuals explicit
  • Strong analytical and commercial judgment
  • Ability to assess financial and technical infrastructure for new use cases
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

‍

Experience in Singapore or another major regulated financial centre is preferred.

‍

Experience with tokenised assets, institutional digital-asset infrastructure, programmable settlement, mechanism design, information economics or data markets would be advantageous.

‍

Prior experience in MAS-regulated capital-markets activities and completion of relevant CMFAS examinations are advantageous but not required.

‍

To apply

Please submit to liyana@helloshelley.com:

  • Your CV
  • A short cover letter explaining your interest in Shelley and how your experience relates to the role
  • A short description of a market, financial product, transaction structure or quantitative research problem you have worked on
  • An example of relevant modelling, market-structure, economic or product-design work, where available
  • A short explanation of your individual contribution
  • Your current location and Singapore work authorisation status

‍

Shortlisted candidates will complete a short market-design exercise based on a data-value use case. The exercise will assess financial reasoning, quantitative judgment and the ability to develop a practical economic structure.
